https://youtu.be/5aelU7Wuv_E?list=PLUIR5pZGIR6yX8AgzkLNuCfTC3CGtRN0K
the sub genre includes family and Drama , as we have a betrayal between two sisters as well as a murder committed by three friends
the narrative is about a two sisters one who was pronounced dead as the other ' weaker' sibling find out her state , whilst a group of teens attempt to cover up a murder
two sisters one who is stronger and more sarcastic and the other more worrisome , a worried husband as he calls his wife and a close bonded group of friends
an enigma introduced is the why between the two sisters as well as the how for the friends covering up the body
the locations chosen are and abandoned garden an office and the centre town
we have the constant sound of non -diegetic sound throughout which quietens it pitch when an actor is speaking
the pace is relatively fast as they cut thought certain scenes/ narratives
it's a variety of ages and on one variation of race but a lack of religious representation
we have lot's of over the shoulder shots , aswell and long shots , some mid shots to show the actors reactions , the movement used follows the actions which the actors make aswell as the pan across actors faces in a still movement
We have props like wine and guns aswell as the use of red clothing to connote either death or power , the location of a town could inform the audience that it's a close nitt community whilst the abandoned garden could say that the sisters are isolated
17 shots within the first 30 seconds
whilst there are three locations used in the first 30 seconds in the end there are 4
the goals are one of love , information and survival
the location are one of a town , in a close nit community where gossip spreads quickly.
Their target audiences are teens to young adults , this appeals to them due to the characters and how most of it included storylines that will be experienced by teens and young adults
The genre conventions for this specific genre are one of love , information and survival
the ideology presented romance , family , social issues.
the people and places are presented as
Degrassi : dirt of your shoulder

the sub genres present is realism , relationships and college
The narrative is about the life of high school students in America for example we have a teen family aswell as the fall of a script writer student following his breakup with his co-writer , aswell as a homosexual situationship. locations consists of outside a school , in a drama class , a gym and a homely kitchen which is messy this allows for the target audience to feel relatable to character as these are common locations for 16-24 year olds.
they use non-diegetic sounds like upbeat music within transitions
within this soap opera editing like slower pace and they do not integrate multiple narrative between each scene.
character representations include different interests within characters but not a variation in race but we have got people exploring different sexuality a life paths for their future. aswell as a character using a came due to an injury this shows a positive representation of disability as the character is portrayed as determined.
the camera tends to follow that s=character around the locations as seen in the opening scene aswell as being mid shot or medium lose up when not shadowing the character.
within Degrassi , clothing is widely used to show a range of character as we have conventional or ' normal' teens as they are dressed for everyday confort whilst also following mainstream trends . we have character who follow alternative fashion sense with the inclusion of colour hair and layered jewellery. the location is further implemented as a school with the prop of a yellow school bus due to it being an American show.
there are approximately 11 shots in the first 30 seconds
there are five different locations used in total although I believe that multiple scenes are of the same place( a school)
Their target audience are teenagers , particularly those who are in high school aswell as young adults , Degrassi appeals to their audience due to the motif of school aswell as common experiences of teens and young adults like anxiety and relationships.
the genre conventions they include are community and social issues aswell as romance and relationship dynamics aswell as mental health.
the people and places are presented as
the narrative element conventions include continuous and open-ended narratives, multi-strand narratives, melodramatic emotions, familiar locations . aswell as narrative devices like sudden revelations, chance meetings and coincidences.
Ina soap opera most characters show the conventions of normal , Woking class people which the audience would relate to.
they use a multi-camera setup with with simple editing to create a realistic effect. camera angle are conventionally of eye level and close up so that facial expressions are more visible. most soap operas have a tendency to. use minimal transitions and straight cuts between shots. the cuts between narratives are frequent so that the audience can become informed about multiple narrative running at the same time. aswell as establishing shots to introduce or re-introduce certain settings.
the entire set of where the filming locations are lit to have a more realistic and everyday approach aswell as allow for actors to move around freely between scenes without unwanted cuts.
sound &dialogue conventions include realistic ambients sounds both diegetic. and non- diegetic music and the use of silence to build tension . Meanwhile dialogue usually includes dramatic and heightened emotions and a focus on relationships and social issues . Making it more relatable to their target audience.
soap operas use mise-en-scene to convey non-vocalised storylines aswell as using it to create a more familiar feeling within scenes so that the audience can relate to the soap operas realism and also having a domestic appearance. whilst character clothing is usually casual and recognisable
stereotypical representations include.
within soap operas they stereotypically represent character so that they have a wider chance that the audience can feel relatable to a character. women are represented with both assertive and traditional roles , whilst men depending on age are either portrayed as aggressive or gentle. character on the younger side of age are represented with negative stereotypes like irresponsible but some represent them as fashionable as well as studious. meanwhile themes like social class , sexuality and race are usually stereotypically represented and quite complex.
my intent is a soap opera which is targeted towards 16-22 with storylines that are scattered and never ending talking about topics that are prevalent in teen and young adult lives including education first jobs mental health and family as-well as helping then navigate their new chances as they grow older. my inspiration is both Degrassi and holly oaks . I would like for a homely and familiar appearance.
storylines I can incorporate
A rekindling romance between two childhood friends
A child trying to pay off their parents debt ✔
Teen pregnancy
Colleges ✔
Schools bullying
Truenting
Being kicked out ✔
An argument between parents
Loss of a friend
Mental health ✔
School or a lack there of ✔
missing family members / them coming back ✔
Locations : home address - Maia's house , cafe - Bodmin library , streets , break-room in the cafe- ???
The first scene is a homely location of a child getting comforted by their mum to go to school, the child will be played by Maia as she is confronted by her mother as she says about how they never listen , and then her parent say 'but we do , so talk to us about it instead of it harming you.' the scene is then transition to the second as her dad passes her a drink.
This second scene is going to be following on from a previous episode where a teen is trying to pay of their mothers debt, we will have a shot of a Lily serving another character as they ask how lily's mother is doing. Another character will entre the scene , Mimi who will then tell Lily to go on break as Mimi is worried about Lily and her mental health. And then the person drinking will ask how the trial is going ,this is a more serious subject as Mimi try's to call it off but you can see clearly that it's harming her , and the customer continues pushing. This is where we see Mimi become aggravated and a raised voice which s then cut of by a characters voice behind her , this is an ominous figure and it end's on ' name' in a scared tone.
This third scene will be on the streets as it's Reef on a call to an unseen caller as we only hear Reefs voice. As he is talking about how petty the person on the phone is , we follow him up the road as he converses at the caller as they argue about college's which Reef wants to enrole in .
This fourth scene will be of Lily in the backroom on her break as she scrolls on her phone , then the finishing shot will be off mimi running into the room as she shuts the door ' he's back' this will finish of my piece aswell as leave a sense of suspension to my audience
