L/o: to explore the context & layout design for GQ magazine
its cahchfrase " the magazine for men with an IQ"
GQ has a history of objectifying women
when shot the women were mostly far less than clothed
the women were represented very differently then the men on covers
men of the year was about the accomplishment of men
while sexiest women was about female appearance
GQ targets it audience through the use of conservative values , while focusing on the appearance of the star vehicle
GQ defiantly objectifies women as they are dressed in scantily clothing while the men are fully clothes sort of showing the amount of power they have , the clothes symbolise power the men want to be true
Cover analysis
media language
Typography : how the text looks , font style ,size, colour and size
in my cover the choice of typography of the cover , it is written in san serif font which usually connotes a more modern out look and masculinity which link with the values of GQ , the main cover line of TIM cook is double in side from the rest to depict the importance and who is on the main cover . its all written in white which contrast with the black background , it could also connote modernity and hygiene. while the masthead of GQ is a solum grey which can connote age a wisdom.there a italic version of the bold san serif this could be to decipher the different subjects being talked about in the magazine
Colour palette : usually 3 or 4 colours , sometimes there is an accent colour and is usually linked to the main image
in my cover i believe the colour palette is black , white and grey, these are very sophisticated colours and usually connote wisdom and maturity . there is not a very noticeable colour accent
Layout : a way the text is written in the way that we would read a book , the most eye catching subjects like the masthead are the first thing we see when we read , this is because we read from left to right top to bottom
in the cover its follows a z pattern and has the masthead at the beginning of the z
Anchorage text : any text that gives you the meaning of the image that it is linked to , they will add cover line to add context following the image
in the cover the only Anchorage text is the 'quiet visionary ' it could be the reason why the cover is so scarce

masthead : san serif , masculine , gold connotes wealth , contrasts with the black showing good vs evil
cover-line : shows that they're fashion conscious
anchorage text : this have multiple meanings
. he plays on the wings in football
. he protects other black player form further racial incidents through his campaigning
. he was seen as an ' evil' person but in reality seems on the whole to be a good one
"guardian angle " saved football"
layout: z layout , which is a conventional magazine layout
cover-lines , mixture of serious and fun and talks majority about men
main image : direct address , low angle shows dominance , black connotes power and that he is black , lighting makes his shine , mise en scene of his chains that connote wealth , tattoos are controversial in the news. his skin stands out against the black
in this magazine they give the appearance that Raheem stiriling is a saviour for the black community specifically those who play football. When looking at the anchorage text they have multiple interpretations with the capitalisation of his name it allows for the audience to link the main image to a name , and the word saved it links to him saving further racial abuse towards footballers.
also in the image the wings link to him being a saviour of football while the mise en sene of his chains can connote wealth while the colour black can allude to power and his race that he has been abused about.
when looking at the cover line there is alliteration lexis when talking about machine gun Kelly "insane, wild, totally " this shows how fun the topics are in this magazine which might allow for the men to seen a light at the end of the tunnel.
while the appearance of. ' guardian angel ' is in san serif which could say how he is going against the normal; for of GQ and ultimately life while. the gold colouring can connote wealth and allows for the audience to relate to Raheem sterling, it could also make Raheem look like a winner.

Assessment improvement
TARGET ; include magazine conventions in my analysis
- state if they do or don't match the magazine conventions for example the z layout being typical for the magazine conventions
use the WORD connotations , connotes
the language is exaggerated / hyperbolic
body language = gesture codes
-The main image shows Sterling standing in a confident gesture code , with a large pair of black wings . He is looking at the camera which is placed at a low angle with a serious face and directly addresses the audience.
-The main image shows a low angle shot of sterling standing in a confident stance, connotes dominance over the audience , with a large pair of black wings. the colour palette of black connotes being sinful but also masculinity . He looks serious and directly addresses the audience.
c . layout and design
GQ's front cover follows a z layout , which is conventional layout for magazines, the layout allows for the audience to read the masthead first and end with the main cover line. While the writing in the quote " Guardian Angel"is serif connotes with traditional scripture . This links to the mature age of the target audience of GQ .

GQ Representation
Stirling's mise en sene with him being topless can connote masculinity with him sewing off his muscles while also the colour pallets being black connotes to dominance and strength while in the cover lines involve topic like politics religion and sports. while he also challenges stereotypes with the wins as they connote femininity .
Stirling's is fighting against racism he's being shown positively but its still objectifies him with the stereotypes of black people having to be strong to be successful (basket-ballers , bodybuilders and footballers) its a more modern black representations of black people being successful not due to their race

vouge means a specific fashion of it's time
the block capitals connote power, importance and classy
the reason why the vouge masthead is over the top of Malalas head is to link her status to Vouge
the silver colour can connote being royalty and iron / protection
the silver colour Anchorage Highlights her power
Anchorage text
the Brightest text is her name. , malala , being in bold and white could show how her importance is being herself , a protector

cover-lines
they follow a structure of title and leading paragraph, the tile being a different font as-well as being in bold while the leading paragraph is in serif italics. the colours also highlight this . But on the left hand side it involves Vouge is all in bold this leads the eyes to read it more eagerly.
image
the shot type is medium close up to see her face and her feminine hand gesture it allows for us to her Hijab

1. the presentation of a person or organisation . how the media re presents the world to us
2. stereotypes positive or negative.
3. muslim
4. no , she is not stereotypical
5, courage , and love
representation
In the past the small amount of representation of Muslims are either as perpetrators or victims , never strong or positive leaders and 70% are males.
In terms of ethnicity the vouge cover shows that it is becoming more inclusive this is due to the diversity of star vehicles ethnicity.
Explain how both ethnicity and gender have been represented on the Vouge cover
1 ethnicity , 2 about gender stereotypical and non
Ethnicity has been presented in an anti stereotypical way , this is due to the vast amount of diversity. for example the cover lines of " fighting talk" includes two black people . This is anti stereotypical as they usually have only white people on all forms of magazines in both cover-lines and main image. this informs us that Vouge is becoming more inclusive as well as their audience being more progressive due to them being ABC1 class . As well as the positive representation of the main image star, Malala , as stereotypically muslims are represented as perpetrators as well as male. This fights against the negative outlook on ethnicity as she is being represented as a survivor and having mass courage due to the colour red being the pallet she is wearing.
Gender is being present as both stereotypical as anti this is due to the conventions of a Vouge magazine. Firstly , gender is being presented as stereotypically due to the topics covered in the cover lines , including fashion romance and beauty. this links to Vouge target audience of adult women who are classed as ABC1 due to their interest in these topics since they are female , as well as being what you would expect from a vouge magazine . This is also supported due to malala appearance , as her hand gesture connotes a more demure and softer effect , as well as her wearing makeup link with the topics covered in thee cover lines.
Alternatively , Gender is being presented as Anti stereotypical as the cover line called fighting talk could be about Jordan Dunn conversing with Anthony about boxing, this is a male dominated sport and is fighting against the stereotype of females being weak due to their interest of being interested in a " non feminine " interest , this can be in powering . Malala being in the main image is anti stereotypical due to her story , we can see this is the Anchorage of her being a " survivor , activist, legend " these can be anti stereotypical as females are usually told that they are a victim and that they should not fight for what they stand for . Malala is Being shown as a role model because she is covered in the power colour of red , the Anchorage and the textual detail that hopefully the audience should know due to the progressive mind. Can support the idea that females can be strong, this fights toward the progression of Vouge.
